Jinsoo Bae’s personal webpages

I am an Associate Research Fellow at the Korea Institute of Finance(KIF).

My academic training is rooted in Experimental Economics, Auction Theory, and Industrial Organization. My research interests lie at the intersection of market design and public policy, with applications in public procurement, fiscal policy, and financial markets.

During my Ph.D., I developed a theoretical framework showing that, under budget constraints, optimal auction design may depart from standard auctions—which typically maximize revenue—and instead take non-standard forms, such as proportional auctions. This insight was supported by experimental evidence.

I also examined joint bidding in auctions and showed that it can generate pro-competitive effects that outweigh potential anti-competitive concerns, particularly in settings characterized by strong asymmetries among bidders.

Before joining KIF, I spent four years at the Korea Institute of Public Finance (2020–2024), where I led research on public procurement policy, environmental taxation, and fiscal management. Since 2024, I have been working at KIF’s Financial Consumer Research Division, focusing on consumer finance and payment systems, including digital assets such as stablecoins.
